vacation

Lucas is home on vacation this week. We've opted to stay close to home, do some day trips, visit some favorite spots... we live in such a beautiful area, why not take advantage of a stay-cation when you are surrounded by beaches and ponds and mountains and your own bed and bathroom?

Last night we took a picnic dinner to a beach in New Hampshire. Even though we love our regular beach, there is something so special about New Hampshire beaches, and I'm not just saying that because I grew up there. NH has such a small amount of coast line, that every single beach is packed with beauty and makes the most out of the short mileage. And they kind of feel like home.

The weather has take a turn towards the cool side in the evenings, so we dawned sweaters and sweatshirts. As the sun tucked behind the trees to the west, I was so thankful for my sweater. And really, when I knit this particular one, back in the spring, evenings at the beach were exactly what I had in mind for my pink fans... squishy and comfy... just perfect.

We are made for the beach. To live here. To inhale salt air and exhale peace. I think it's in my children's blood, as we rarely have any issues or arguments or squabbles when we're surrounded by sea glass and smooth rocks and the sound of waves crashing.

And this guy... he's happy to be on vacation. I asked him a few things yesterday and today and the response was a big smile and an "I don't know, I'm on VACATION!" He should be rocking one of those "Life is Good" t-shirts, one where there is a guy smiling and a kid on either side and a wife snapping pictures because we're all kind of blissed out.

Perhaps I've gotten my picture taking mojo back... It only took a chance to be on a stay-cation the week before school starts to get it going!

  1. Love this post! I felt like I was right there with you, experiencing all the goodness. I've never been to an east coast beach (compared to the west coast), but from all of your pics and stories about it, I can tell they are awesome getaways and your family thinks so highly of them. :)

  7. I agree that the beach is the very thing to get a camera working again! I love the little blue nugget of sea glass - it's on every scavenger hunt list we take to the beach on our walks because it's just so rare. And pretty!
