Coffee and cream

It starts as a simply a few skeins of yarn, wound into cakes by the swift. They are soft and perfect hues of coffee and cream.  And then slowly it turns into what I planned. My fingers guide the needles and the light yarn somehow refreshes my spirit even in the mid July heat and humidity.

Knitting is a year round event.

A meditation.

Moments are broken down into knits and purls and yarn overs and knit togethers...

Knitting is a lifestyle.

As the piece grows and forms at my fingertips, it is harder to put it down. When I dive into a new project there is a period of testing. A trial period almost. Does the yarn feel right for this, does it look right, is the pattern what I wanted it to be... and then when all things say yes, the green light goes off and my heart can't stand to be away from the project at hand for too long.

Before long it is finished. The perfect coffee and cream shawl. I admire. I try it on.

And then my fingers start to ache for another beginning... another moment fresh with anticipation and possibilities.

  4. To know that you donned the shawl yourself will make me even more sentimental. I can't wait to see it in person!!!! And yes that deserved four exclamation points.

My fingers ache to begin new, too, after I write. Writing and knitting are so similar ... beautiful descriptions today, friend.
